Well, there's not really much I can say about this week's episode other than it was so good, I didn't mind only seeing Jules for about 30 seconds!
This week was the aftermath of the accident that occurred at the end of last week's episode (and again at the start of this weeks); poor Chantelle ended up unconscious and having to be rescued from the car by Malick and Digby which ended up with Malick suffering a life changing injury. As he was climbing out of the car Digby and Chantelle had been travelling in (he had climbed in to help get her out), the load that was on the back of the trailer came crashing down, crushing Malick's hand; Digby came along and pulled him away just before a second bale fell but this resulted in Malick's hand becoming detached. Now, the scenes at the hospital where you see the stump and then the hand (kudos to the prosthetic team for their handiwork) weren't for the faint hearted; but they were so well acted by Jimmy (Malick), Hari (Michael), Catherine (Serena) and Guy (Henrik).
Hanssen ending up having to leave Michael and Serena to the task of reattaching the hand as Chantelle took a turn for the worse enroute from AAU to Keller which led to poor old Digby panic. Hanssen managed to calm him down and then after much persuasion, performed brain surgery on the poor nurse. Whilst they performed the operation, Hanssen asked Digby when he first realised he loved Chantelle (something we viewers have known for a long time) to which Digby answered that that moment was when he realised that what he felt for Chantelle was love. It was actually quite a touching scene, despite the noise of the drill that was used to bore holes in her head.
Once both operations were over and Hanssen was happy that both patients were going to be ok (he had a lovely, touching conversation with Chantelle), he left Holby and met up with his son and grandson; it was nice to see him smile and look genuinely happy.
There were quite a few tears shed during this episode and not just from the characters!! It was a very well written, well acted episode and I can't wait to see how Malick copes with the possibility that he might no longer be able to perform surgery and how the Chantelle/Digby situation pans out and if the brain injury Chantelle sustained in the accident affects her work and/or personality.
So that's my review, what did you think....?
